Essay on Rap and Hip Hop Do Not Affect Society Negatively

Rap and hip hop music have been debated many times over the years about whether or not this choice of music affects society negatively. As you will learn from this presentation, rap does not affect society negatively and is a great choice of music. It helps save lives, relieves stress, and tells vital messages to learn from. According to dictionary.com, the definition of hip hop is defined as, â€Å"the popular subculture of big-city teenagers, which includes rap music, breakdancing, and graffiti art.† Also, according to the thefreedictionary.com, the definition of rap is defined as the â€Å"genre of African-American music of the 1980s and 1990s in which rhyming lyrics are chanted to a musical accompaniment; several forms of rap have emerged.†Ã¢â‚¬ ¦show more content†¦Mom was always getting arrested for her cocaine addiction and Eminem was starting to become famous for his rapping. It was a lot to handle at one time for the children. He tells his daughters to: Straighten up little soldier - stiffen up that upper lip. Hes telling them to be strong and that everything will be okay someday. (Eminem – Mockingbird.) Now, let’s consider the second verse of the song. He tells of a story where one Christmas he had no money to buy presents for his daughters. He had to keep food o n the table instead. Eminem and Kim (his wife) tried to start a college savings for their daughters, but every time they tried saving up, their house always got broken into. Life got worse, and they both eventually moved out. Eminem was starting to get famous for his CD, and he had to start working for his rap career, distancing himself even further from his daughters. He is sorry that his kids had to go through this. He only wanted to make a good image for them. Now he is all alone in a house remembering the past of them. He finally reminds his daughters that Mom will not be gone long. (Eminem – Mockingbird.) As with any topic, when an individual takes the time to do their research, usually they will appreciate the subject a little bit more than they used to. This is exactly what we did.
